Night Owl by M. Pierce

Book description from goodreads.com
Love is unstoppable…

At twenty-eight, Matt Sky has the perfect life. He has a beautiful girlfriend, a massive inheritance, and four national bestsellers — all penned under his airtight alias, M. Pierce.

At twenty-seven, Hannah Catalano has a train wreck. Her boyfriend is a deadbeat and her job is abysmal.

Matt and Hannah meet online as writing partners. Their relationship is safe, anonymous, and innocent…

Until Matt sees a picture of Hannah.

Hannah’s picture sparks an attraction Matt is powerless to ignore. When circumstance brings Matt and Hannah together, the strangers begin a love story that’s passionate, poignant, unforgettable, and unstoppable.

My review:

I have to say, I am very surprised at how much I liked this book.  And I say that because Matt was a total douchebag for a good portion of this book.  I hate cheaters.  I hate cheating, but for some inexplicable reason, I was drawn to Matt.

Matt and Hannah meet online in a writing forum and form a bond that quickly grows sexual.  Matt lives in Denver, Hannah lives in Seattle, but she leaves Seattle and moves to Denver.  She and Matt meet and begin a very tumultuous affair.  Matt has a secret life and a secret identity and when Hannah finds out, she breaks things off with Matt, causing a storm of events in both of their lives.  I appreciated the fact that Hannah stood her ground with Matt and didn’t run back to him.  She had to heal in her own way.

This book had some incredibly steamy sex scenes.  There is some serious kinkery in this book and it was all good.  I really liked Hannah; she was a good person.  Matt was really screwed up – had substance abuse issues and a girlfriend he failed to mention.  I think the secrecy was part of the allure of this book and normally I’d be offended by cheating – but for some reason, in this book, I wasn’t.

The way things unfolded with Matt’s secret was sad and hard on both characters, and I felt that the situation was written in a believable way that made you feel.

Overall, this was a great read and I’m excited about book 2.

My recommendation:

Read it.
