The Arrow Season 1 Finale: Fast Enough
From TV Guide: Wells presents Barry with a life-changing choice. Dr. Martin Stein and Ronnie Raymond return to help the S.T.A.R. Labs team with this final fight.
Season 1 of the Flash ended with a bang and a major cliffhanger (much to the chagrin of my 10 year old son!). As we saw at the end of the penultimate episode, The Arrow, The Atom and The Flash take down Harrison Wells, whose name is Eobard Thawne, and is from the future. Wells is a prisoner at S.T.A.R. Labs now, and makes Barry an interesting offer – go back in time and save your mother (and possibly change the course of history) and in return, allow Wells to return to his time.
Barry now has a tough choice. Saving his mother means his father does not go to jail, which means he doesn’t meet Joe and Iris. Barry talks to his father, and his father feels strongly that Barry should NOT save his mother. His father said that things happen for a reason and Barry should leave the past the past. Joe, however, feels very strongly that Barry SHOULD save his mother. I didn’t understand this. Joe really felt that he and Barry would meet anyway. This left Barry with an unbearable decision.
Grant Gustin’s performance in this episode was incredibly raw and believable. It was fantastic. Barry struggles with his decision to go back in time, but eventually choses to do so. What he does though, I did not see coming. WARNING – spoiler:::
Barry does NOT save his mother. He tells her that he is fine, and that his dad is fine. I think he needed to closure. I don’t think he did this because he knows he marries Iris in the future. I think he does it for him.
To send Dr. Wells back to “his time” Barry has to run his fastest around S.T.A.R. Labs. While doing this, Barry sees glimpses into alternate universes. He sees himself in what appears to be prison on the phone. I assumed he was visiting his father but it appears BARRY is in prison. There is a “Flash” museum somewhere. It appears Caitlin is a villain. There is a Legends of Tomorrow flash.
In the meantime, Eddie tells Iris he wants her back, screw what the future says. At the end, Eddie shoots himself to “kill” Eobard. Since he is from the future, if Eddie is dead, he won’t exist. Interesting. Does that mean Dr. Wells is gone for good?
We also find out that Cisco has some metahuman capabilities, with his vivid dreams. I’m interested to see where that goes.
Caitlin marries Ronnie. That was random too. Then, when Dr. Wells dies, a giant wormhole opens in the sky, and Barry runs up a building and runs around the wormhole. Fade to black…..(cliffhanger)
Overall, this was a great episode to conclude a great freshman season. I hope Flash stays true to what it’s been doing and doesn’t take a dark turn like Arrow. I can’t wait for this show to come back.
