She was off limits. Too young. The boss’s daughter. Forbidden.
I knew it all along, but it didn’t change the absolute possession I felt when it came to her… nothing would change how I felt about her.
So I did what I had to; I waited until the time was right to make her mine, only to find out there is one thing that could ruin it all.

Author Bio:
Anna began writing when she thought the world would want to hear her sick lyrics through song. Since then, she’s realized her childhood dream wasn’t so far-fetched, just misguided. Now she writes romance with real emotions and happy endings. If Anna isn’t writing or reading, she can be found by a space heater painting her nails and drinking a ridiculous amount of Diet Dr Pepper. She also likes to hang out with her husband and two boys. If it wasn’t for them, she wouldn’t ever leave the house. Anna was born in Wisconsin but now lives in the Evergreen State.

Review
Surface is book 1 in the Royal Ace Security series. Paisley is a college student living in New York, while her family is in California. While out doing photography (which is her major), she is attacked by a crack head and ends up in the hospital. Imagine her shock when she wakes up and finds her longtime crush, Royce, in her hospital room.
Paisley first met Royce when she was 14 and he was 21. Paisley felt she was meant to be with Royce, despite their age difference. Royce works for Paisley’s adopted father, Erik, as a security guard. He is Paisley’s guard dog and bodyguard, and while Paisley hates her constant protection, she loves the fact that it is Royce is her bodyguard. But when Paisley is a senior in high school, Royce finally gives in and kisses Paisley, then suddenly disappears. For 3 years.
Back to the present, once Paisley gets over her shock of seeing Royce, she has to deal with the fact that she’s been attacked. It makes her yearn for California.
I can’t give too much away without spoiling the story, but my biggest complaint about this book would be this: things happen to Paisley and she quickly gives up her dream of being a photographer to be with Royce. She’s 19 or 20 years old and her parents allowed it. I get that she’s an adult, but they didn’t say anything about it. As a parent, I would tell my child to chase your dream and focus on the relationship later. I found this disappointing. My second complaint would be there is a lot of time jumping in this book. It was hard to keep up with where we were in time.
Royce is a typical alpha male. I liked is character and he grew emotionally over the course of the book. Paisley was a tough chick and seemed much older than she was. Her father, Erik, was pretty over the top protective. I liked Polly, Paisley’s adoptive mother.
There were two side stories that weren’t really necessary to the book; one was a friend of Paisley and one was a homeless girl Paisley and Royce befriended. They added drama but were boring sub-plots in my opinion.
Overall, this was a pretty good book and I would recommend it.
