Worst books I read in 2018

I read a lot of great books in 2018 (see my TTT with my list here. But in addition to the great books I read, I read some real clunkers.  These are not in any particular order, save for the worst book I’ve read in a long time, which is #1.

I will say that lots of other people liked these books, so these opinions are clearly just my own. So here is my list of the books I just couldn’t connect with in 2018. I am only rating full length novels – not novellas.

Let’s start with one of the worst books I’ve read in the past 5 years….

Unscrew Me by Hailey Faiman. This book was insulting to women. The heroine was a doormat to this MC member who basically told her what to do, cheated on her and HAD HER BRANDED without even telling her that he loved her. He was a single father (a terrible father) who was in love with another woman who treated him like dirt for 20 years. You would expect a man in his mid-40’s to act better.  This book is utter garbage and I would NOT recommend it to anyone.

UnScrew Me (Savage Beast MC #1)

My Last Chance by Weston Parker. There was very little character development in this book, and the synopsis did not match the story.

My Last Chance

His Banana by Penelope Bloom. The hero was a real jerk in this story. He didn’t get better until the very end. Very uneven and boring story.

His Banana (Objects of Attraction, #1)

Get you Some by Lani Lynn Vale. Such a stupid story. Small town where girl is ostracized due to her parents. No thanks.

Get You Some (Simple Man, #3)

Forget You by Nina Crespo. Supposedly a rom-com that was not funny at all. Did not care for the characters and the title really had nothing to do with the story.

Forget You (The Kingman Brothers, #1)

Accidentally in Love by Anna Premoli. This book was clearly written in another language and translated (quite terribly) to English. This book was so laughably bad. Nothing funny about this “hilarious rom-com”.

Accidentally in Love: A hilarious, heart-warming Rom-Com

Did anyone read these books and feel differently?

Happy New Year!!

The 5 W’s

I have been on a little bit of a hiatus, but saw this one and thought I’d do it. Happy holidays to all!!!

WHO | WHO IS AN AUTHOR YOU’D LOVE TO HAVE A ONE-ON-ONE WITH?

This is a tough one. Dead – Michael Crichton. I loved him so much. Sphere is one of my all time favorite books. Living – Kristen Proby. I absolutely love her writing and she wrote one of my all time favorite male characters, so….

WHAT | WHAT GENRE/STYLE DO YOU MOST OFTEN GRAVITATE TO?

Romance. Not sure when/how that happened, but it did. I love it.

WHERE | WHERE DO YOU PREFER TO READ?

I will read anywhere. Train, couch, office. I have a tough time in the car, but anywhere.

WHEN | WHAT TIME OF DAY DO YOU PREFER TO READ?

I read at any time. Generally, when I get on the train, I open my kindle. At lunch, I open my kindle. On the train home. Sitting on the couch at night….

WHY | WHY IS YOUR FAVORITE BOOK YOUR FAVORITE BOOK?

I don’t know I could pin down a favorite book, but I will go with Sphere by Michael Crichton. I love it so much because it was an edge of your seat thriller that kept me captivated. I’m afraid to read it again for fear I won’t like it as much.

BONUS: HOW | HOW DO YOU GO ABOUT SELECTING WHAT BOOK YOU’LL READ NEXT?

No method. I generally have a list of ARC’s to read, though this month, I don’t. I have at least 7 books to review in January, so that keeps me busy.

Happy Holidays and Happy New Year to all.

If you follow my blog, you know I am a romance reader. This is a perfect song for a romance reader:

Woman, Amen by Dierks Bentley

Every night I should be on my knees
Lord knows how lucky I am
I’ll never say near enough
Thank God for this woman, Amen

I think every woman wants to think her man feels this way, but it’s nice to know Dierks does for sure.

Enjoy!

Happy Monday!

Romance Readers Book Tag

I saw a few of the blogs I follow do this fun tag, so I knew I had to jump on the bandwagon, since all I read is romance!!

WHAT AGE DID YOU START TO READ ROMANCE NOVELS?

Honestly, it’s been in the last five years, which is funny, because I’m in my mid-forties!

IF YOU COULD PICK ONE HERO TO MEET FROM YOUR FAVORITE ROMANCE NOVELS, WHO WOULD IT BE AND WHY?

Oh my god, there are so many I would pick, but honestly I would pick Matt Montgomery from Tied with Me by Kristen Proby. I absolutely fricking loved him and re-read the end of that book about 50 times.

WHO ARE YOUR FAVORITE ROMANCE AUTHORS AND WHY?

I have so many! Kristen Proby is my favorite. I also like Sawyer Bennett, Harper Sloan, Aurora Rose Reynolds, Max Monroe, Meghan Quinn, Melanie Harlow and many others. For romantic comedy, Meghan Quinn is a must read. Kristen Proby writes great male characters – I haven’t met one I didn’t love.

WHAT IS A FAVORITE ROMANCE NOVEL TO RE-READ?

I am not a re-reader.

WHAT BOOK WOULD YOU RECOMMEND TO A NON-ROMANCE READER?

I would recommend the With Me in Seattle series by Kristen Proby for many reasons. One, I love a series about a family. Two, as stated above, she writes great men, and three, there are nine books in the series.

WHICH IS YOUR FAVORITE: CONTEMPORARY, SUSPENSE, HISTORICAL AND WHY?

I love contemporary. I like suspense, but a good romantic suspense is hard to find. I don’t read historical romance. Just haven’t gotten into it.

Calling all romance bloggers: TAG YOU’RE IT! If you’re a romance blogger then you should totally join in on the fun and do this tag! Feel free to let me know in the comments which book sparked your love for the romance genre and who some of your favorite romance authors are!

One of my favorite Pandora stations is the Blink-182 station. I listen to it all the time, and each and every time this song comes on, I turn it up and sing along. This song was also in one of my favorite teen flicks, American Pie 2.

In Too Deep by Sum 41

Seems like each time
I’m with you I loose my mind
Because I’m bending over backwards to relate
It’s one thing to complain
But when you’re driving me insane
Well then I think it’s time that we took a break

Enjoy! This is a fun video!

Happy Monday!
