Goodreads Summary

Still, Riley knows it’s an opportunity she can’t afford to pass on. And when she meets Trevor Cooper, the show’s executive producer, she’s stunned by their intense chemistry.

Trevor’s sole intention is to persuade Riley to allow Best Bites TV to do a show on her restaurant. But when he walks into Riley’s office, he stops dead in his tracks. The professional, aloof woman on the phone is incredibly beautiful and funny. But can he convince her that he’s interested in Riley for himself? Or is he using the undeniable pull between them to persuade her to agree to his offer?

Review

Riley Gibson is the PR manager for Seduction, one of the hottest restaurants in Portland. Seduction has been given the opportunity to be featured on a Food Network type show, and everyone but Mia, the chef, are excited about the opportunity.   The book starts with Riley venting to the girls about a horrible date she’d had.  There is a man at the bar, and he makes a comment about what a toolbag her date is.  What Riley doesn’t realize is the man is the producer of the show, Trevor Cooper.

Trevor is excited to feature Seduction on his network.   What he wasn’t prepared for was his intense attraction to Riley.  Riley is smart and funny.  And beautiful. Trevor has been married – his wife was a cheater.   But Trevor lives in LA and Riley lives in Portland, so they both know that whatever they have will be short term.

But things never turn out as planned in books, so I’m sure you can guess what happened.  One thing about Trevor that I liked is he was kind of a nerd – he was a gamer.  He loved Star Wars and some of his best friends were gamers.  One thing I didn’t like – Riley talked SEVERAL times about how Trevor wore glasses and how sexy he was – the guy on the cover should be wearing glasses!!!!  Sorry, that just drives me crazy!!

There was a little drama with a female gamer and with Trevor’s ex-wife.  There wasn’t a big focus on the show being filmed at Seduction – it was more of a sub-plot, but will be much more heavily featured in the next book.

I did like Riley – she was a tough lady.  I really liked Trevor as well.  He was a really good guy.  Nothing would pull me away from this series, or any other Kristen Proby series.  She’s my go to author, so I would recommend.

Happy reading.

Book Review – Close to You by Kristen Proby

Goodreads Summary

Camilla, “Cami,” LaRue was five-years-old when she first fell in love with Landon Palazzo. Everyone told her the puppy love would fade—they clearly never met Landon. When he left after graduation without a backward glance, she was heartbroken. But Cami grew up, moved on, and became part-owner of wildly popular restaurant Seduction. She has everything she could want…or so she thinks. close-to-you

After spending the last twelve years as a Navy fighter pilot, Landon returns to Portland to take over the family construction business. When he catches a glimpse of little Cami LaRue, he realizes she’s not so little any more. He always had a soft spot for his little sister’s best friend, but nothing is soft now when he’s around the gorgeous restauranteur.

Landon isn’t going to pass up the chance to make the girl-next-door his. She’s never been one for romance, but he’s just the one to change her mind. Will seduction be just the name of her restaurant or will Cami let him get close enough to fulfill all her fantasies?

Review

Oh Landon Palazzo, how I love thee.  Close to You is the story of Cami LaRue, who has been in love with her friends brother, Landon for years.  It’s also the story of Landon, the man she’s been in love with forever.  Landon has just left the Navy, where he was a fighter pilot.  Cami is one of the owners of Seduction restaurant.  Cami works up the nerve to go see Landon and he’s pretty much a dick to her.

He later comes to apologize, and from there on out, he was AMAZING.  He was sweet, kind and incredibly romantic.  I just adored him.  Cami was a bit annoying in parts – she was worried that Landon was going to want to leave – since he’s been travelling the world for the past 10 years.

This book moved at a great pace and I loved that it was told in alternating first person POV.  There wasn’t a ton of drama (a little..) but it didn’t take away from the story.

Overall, a good book and I will continue reading the series.  Though I would read anything Kristen Proby writes.

Happy reading.

Man Crush Monday

Man Crush Monday #17

This is my 17th installment in my Man Crush Monday meme.  Since I read mostly romance, I thought I’d share some of my “book crushes” with you, and possibly introduce you to some new reading material.

My Man Crush Monday for this week is Matt Montgomery from Tied With Me by Kristen Proby.

First of all, I can’t believe I went 17 weeks without Matt being my MCM.  I freaking LOVE this guy.  You’ll hear why below.

Summary from goodreads.comA man whose lifestyle is so different from her own…

Nic Dalton’s cupcake bakery is thriving. She serves both rock stars and locals alike, tied with mecontent with her growing business. But one adventurous night out with her best friend, Bailey, turns her life upside down. She meets a handsome stranger who makes her skin sizzle and her heart race. Their one night together is explosive and unexpected, but when he has to suddenly leave without taking her phone number, Nic resigns herself to never seeing him again.…What will it take to trust and submit to his every desire?

Matt Montgomery is one of Seattle’s finest. He works hard, loves and protects his family fiercely, and is loyal almost to a fault.  And he has a penchant for bondage.

Matt enjoys the way a woman looks wrapped up in his ropes, and makes no apologies for his preferences. When he meets Nic at a fetish festival, the small, beautiful woman catches his eye, drawing him to her. His one night with her was everything he’s ever looked for in a partner, but is cut short because of a family emergency. Even before he sees her again weeks later, he knows he’ll never get her out of his system.  And he’ll do whatever it takes to make her his.

I know it’s a little odd to choose the 6th book in a series and focus on the guy, but Matt Montgomery is by far my favorite Montgomery brother and my favorite male from the entire series.  Matt is a cop in Seattle with a penchant for bondage – something he is very self conscious about and doesn’t want his family to know about.  He meets Nic at a fetish festival and he’s done for.

Matt was sweet and loving, and very protective of his family – qualities I love in a man.  Nic had some serious baggage, but Matt was so patient with her, giving her the time she needed – until the end.  I think I re-read the end of the book 50 times.  I would highly recommend this entire series.

Happy reading.

Book Traveling Thursday

Book Traveling Thursday is hosted Danielle (from Danielle’s Book Blog) and Cátia (from TheGirlWhoReadTooMuch).

This week’s topic is a musical book, that is, one in which music plays a big part.

Listen to Me by Kristen Proby

listen to me

Summary from goodreads.com:  Seduction is quickly becoming the hottest new restaurant in Portland, and Addison Wade is proud to claim 1/5 of the credit. She’s determined to make it a success and can’t think of a better way to bring in new customers than live music. But when former rock star Jake Keller swaggers through the doors to apply for the weekend gig, she knows she’s in trouble. Addie instantly recognizes him—his posters were plastered all over her bedroom walls in high school—he’s all bad boy…exactly her type and exactly what she doesn’t need.

Jake Keller walked away from the limelight five years ago and yearns to return to what’s always driven him: the music. If he gets to work for a smart-mouthed, funny-as-hell bombshell, all the better. But talking Addie into giving him the job is far easier than persuading her that he wants more than a romp in her bed. Just when she begins to drop her walls, Jake’s past finally catches up with him.

Will Addie be torn apart once again or will Jake be able to convince her to drown out her doubts and listen to her heart?

Jake is a musician, who takes a gig playing weekends at Seduction, where he meets one of the owners, Addie.  Music is a huge part of this book, and the song that Jake writes for Addie – swoon worthy.

What book about music did you enjoy?

what i'm currently reading

Crave by Megan O’Brien.  I read her entire “Ride” series and this book (and series) is a spin-off from book four with some of the characters we met there (which I didn’t realize).  It’s a little predictable, but the MC is a total alpha male and I love him:)

What I recently finished

I haven’t had much time to read lately, so it’s been a week since I started anything:(  The last book I finished was Easy Kisses by Kristen Proby.  Book 4 in the Boudreaux series wasn’t my favorite in the series, but a solid book that I really enjoyed.

Book Review – Easy Kisses by Kristen Proby

Goodreads Summary

Simon Danbury, an internationally sought after motivational speaker, helps women from all walks of life with love, self-esteem, dating easy kissesand career building skills. Handsome, witty and wealthy, Simon seemingly has everything a man could want. But appearances can be deceiving. While Simon may have the answers for millions of women all over the world, when it comes to his own love life, he’s a giant, sexy mess. Divorced, and convinced that he’ll never love again, the very last thing he expects is one Charly Boudreaux.

Charly doesn’t want to be at this seminar in the middle of nowhere, but her sister made her go. She’s the one who has her life together. Great career, amazing family, nice home, and loyal friends. So what if she doesn’t have a man? She doesn’t need one. If she’s learned anything in her almost thirty years, it’s that men are more trouble than they’re worth. And they have a nasty habit of breaking your heart into a million tiny pieces. So she’ll sit through all of Simon’s touchy feely crap and go home and get on with her life. Except Simon isn’t really spouting crap, and when he smiles at her, the butterflies are ridiculous.

Never mixing business with pleasure, Simon finds Charly, a bright spot in a universe that’s been dark for too long. But will he be able to resist her? And why would he want to?

Review

Book 4 in the Boudreaux series focuses on sister Charly (Charlotte), owner of Head Over Heels show store.  Charly is in a slump, and she goes to a seminar in Montana run by Simon Danbury, a British motivational speaker who has devoted his life to helping women empower themselves.

Charly and Simon have an instant connection.  Charly keeps to herself, and Simon seems to run into her often during their two week retreat.  Simon has a strict rule about not sleeping with his clients, but Charly is special.

There were a few times during the last 25% of the book that I wanted to punch Simon in the face.  He was presumptuous and annoying at points; Charly, on the other hand, was a kick ass heroine.  She was cool and collected, and very strong, despite her insecurities.  I really liked her.  For most of the rest of the book, Simon was sweet and romantic, but near the end, he was annoying.

Of course, the Boudreaux siblings played a big role in the background.  I had a feeling the next book was going to be about Beau, and I was right:)  I’m excited to read his book.

Overall, this was another solid book in the series.

Happy reading.

Top 10 Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday – “Beach Reads”

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and Bookish Blog.

This week’s topic is:  This week’s topic: Beach Reads Week — top ten great beach reads, ten books I plan to read on the beach, ten beach reads for those who don’t like typical *beach reads*, ten authors who are my go to for beach reads, etc.

This, for me, is really my June TBR, but I’m going along because I don’t characterize books into category like “beach reads”.  When I’m on vacation, I’m going to read books that interest me.  Here is my list in no particular order.

Books I plan to read this summer:

virgin romanceThe Virgin Romance Novelist by Meghan Quinn.  I read a little of this and shelved it, but then I read The Mother Road by this author and loved it, so I’m going to give this one another shot.

wrong number right guyWrong Number, Right Guy by Elle Casey.  I don’t know much about this book other than it’s by Elle Casey, who wrote Shine, Not Burn (which I loved).  So I’m going to give this book a shot.

unexpected everythingUnexpected Everything by Morgan Matson.  I stumbled upon this book on goodreads, and I’ve never read this author, but the book sounds fun and there are dogs involved.  That’s all I need to hear:)

undeniably youUndeniably You by Jewel E. Ann.  Another book I stumbled upon which features dogs.  Never read this author either, but it sounds fun (despite the cover).

grin and beard itGrin and Beard It by Penny Reid.  I’m especially excited about this book, which I will likely read in the next week.  I loved the first book in the series, and I’m glad this book isn’t about Beau.  I hope there are 10 books in this series:)

talon securityCrave by Megan O’Brien.  New series I just discovered by the author of a really good MC series (see below).  I’m excited to hit this book.

rykerRyker by Megan O’Brien.  The 4th and hopefully not last book in the Ride series is about Ryker (which is a really popular name for men in books..).  Even though Ryker is a youngin, I’m sure he will be quite the alpha male:)

mackenzie fireMackenzie Fire by Elle Casey.  I finally bought this book and I’m so excited to read it.  I loved the first book and I regret that it sat on my shelf for so long.

easy kissesEasy Kisses by Kristen Proby.  Kristen Proby could write a phone book and I would read it. She is absolutely one of my go to authors.  I’ve read all the books in this series and will continue to do so.  She has the second book in her Fusion series coming out in August and I’ll be all over that too!  That makes 10!!

What’s on your list?

Happy reading.
